BUCS - What is it?
British Universities & Colleges Sport - known as BUCS - is the national governing body for sport in higher education, and organises regular competition between institutions.
Staffordshire University has 32 sports teams participating in weekly league and knock-out competitions with other universities in the Midlands.
BUCS also organises over 40 individual championships, such as Athletics, Swimming, Cycling, Surf, Snooker, Golf and many more.
As a member, Staffordshire University Students' Union has a say in how BUCS is run through regional group meetings which feed into the national advisory group.

We have 32 teams taking part in weekly fixtures in 12 sports ranging from American Football to Volleyball.
Formed from our clubs, the teams play in various leagues and knockout competitions against other universities in the Midlands on Wednesday afternoons (except for American Football, who play on Sundays).
In 2011/12, Women's Badminton won the Midlands Conferece Cup and also won promotion from their league.

There are over 40 competitions available for individuals, ranging from Archery to Windsurfing.
Staffordshire University mainly competes in the Swimming championships (which take place in November and February) and the Athletics championships (which take place in February and May).
We have also sent individuals to the Sprint Triathlon and the Downhill Mountain Bike championships.
In 2012, the Athletic Outdoor Championships took place at the Olympic Stadium as the test event before London 2012.

The Students' Union meets with the other nine institutions in the West Midlands to discuss competitions issues and changes within the BUCS structure.
One of the sabbatical officers and a co-ordinator attend the regional meetings, which normally take place four times a year.
