The Students’ Union is run by students for students – that means we’re completely dedicated to representing students at Staffs and helping provide what they want from their student experience. That covers everything from advice and support, great venues and events to representation, sports clubs, activities and even a dedicated student media service.

Advice

There are a number of ways you can get the help that you need:

The Student Advice Centre (SAC) offers confidential and impartial advice on a variety of issues, such as: student finance, academic affairs, student housing, debt management etc. In addition, there are a number of online self help materials which you can access from the Advice Guide.

Legends and The Lounge are the Union's Beaconside campus venues. The Lounge is a recently refurbished, stylish bar serving great food and coffee as well as the traditional bar refreshments seven days a week. BUCS Fixtures - What the Fixtures Co-ordinator Will Do

Please note that Cath Taylor is the Fixtures Co-ordinator for Stoke-based teams, and Tommy Hill is Fixtures Co-ordinator for Stafford-based teams.

What the Union's Fixtures Co-ordinator will do:

BEFORE FIXTURES

Confirm the dates, start times & venues for both home & away fixtures with the opposition.
Book home match facilities (although you may be asked to assist with this where an external facility is required)
Re-arrange fixtures where there have been problems in advance. If you wish to rearrange a match you will need to speak to your Fixtures Co-ordinator as far in advance as possible. If it is less than 3 days before the fixture then we are extremely unlikely to be able to rearrange and if you cannot play the most likely outcome will be conceding a walkover. Please do not verbally commit to re-arranging fixtures with the Captain of the opposing team as this needs to be done by the Fixtures Co-ordinator and be put in writing.
Book transport when transport is requested before 2pm on the Thursday before the fixture.

ON THE DAY

Confirm pitch conditions where possible by 5pm the day before the fixture or by 11am on the day where there has been bad weather overnight. Cancellations will be communicated to the Captain. Where we receive notification that a home or away match is cancelled we will contact you (and where applicable your opposition) at the earliest possible convenience. Please do not phone us or the sports centre about pitch conditions as this prevents urgent calls from getting through.
Re-arrange fixtures that are postponed due to bad weather - we may need assistance from Captains and teams in doing so, so please be responsive to any emails or phone calls. Please do not verbally commit to re-arranging fixtures with the Captain of the opposing team as this needs to be done by the Fixtures Co-ordinator and be put in writing.
Take phone calls from opposition where there is a problem - often we will be contacted by opposition teams who are late due to travel problems, or have had another issue which affects the fixture. All Captains need to ensure they are contactable on the day of the game (our calls come up as a withheld number) for us to pass these messages along.

AFTER FIXTURES

Enter results onto the BUCS website - according to BUCS rules this must be done before 10am on the day after the fixture. Please help us to keep to this rule by submitting your result as soon as possible after the fixture using any of our methods of submitting results.
Update any future fixtures affected by the outcome of a past fixture - this usually applies mostly to cup fixtures, and is why we ask Captains to regularly look at the BUCS website and facility bookings spreadsheet.
