Driving a minibus

Don't forget, you'll need to be registered on the Students' Union insurance - instructions are available here.

What you'll need to do

Drivers wishing to drive a minibus are required to take a proficiency test which is arranged via Stoke on Trent City Council and is valid for 3 years. Please note this process will take at least a few weeks, so please begin this as soon as possible.

Tests can be booked via your key staff member and are subject to a £137 charge which is payable from the Club or Society account. When emailing please indicate which mornings / afternoons during the week you are free to take the test, as this will speed up the process of getting it booked.

The test takes 2 hours and involves a practical assessment and a selection of theory questions based on a Minibus Handbook (an up to date copy will be provided once the test is booked).  You will also need to be able to do a maintenance walk around the vehicle. 80% is the pass mark.

With the exception of extenuating circumstances, if you fail to cancel a test within 48 hours then you will be charged and the Union reserves the right to refuse any subsequent bookings off you. In such cases it is the club or society’s responsibility to make alternative transport arrangements.
