Access to Learning Fund
What is ALF
It's Government money given to each University in the Country. You can be assessed by the ALF Administrators for the following help:
- Emergency Loans - payable if your student loan has been delayed
- Postgraduate Bursaries - for new postgraduate students
- Awards - available to students in financial hardship or suffering an unforseen crisis
The Awards
Range from £100 to £3,500 (but it is rare to get the maximum).
You can apply once every academic year and in some cases over the summer vacation
If your circumstances change, you can write to the ALF administrators and ask if they will consider reassessing your award.
Paying it back:
If you get an award, you don’t have to pay it back, unless you intermit or withdraw before the end of the academic year.
How is it paid?
Any award will be broken into instalments, some of it may be paid directly to creditors.
Completing the form:
You will need to attend a workshop in order to complete the form. This is a mandatory requirement and an Adviser will need to sign your form to confirm attendance. Your form will also need confirmation of attendance by an academic member of staff. Once completed the form will need to be returned to either the Information Centre in Stoke (Flaxman) or Information Centre, Stafford (Beacon Building)
