Required ALF evidence: an expanded  list

Unlike almost everything else we print, this sheet was originally produced by the University. However, we are the only people who still make the following information available and have edited some sections to reflect changes since it was last “officially” produced. We last updated this sheet in March 2008.

PLEASE NOTE THAT APPLICATIONS WILL BE RETURNED IF EVIDENCE IS MISSING FROM THE APPLICATION.  THIS WILL RESULT IN A DELAY OR AN UNSUCCESSFUL APPLICATION.

Staffordshire University Access to Learning Fund requires evidence of your circumstances as a compulsory part of the application process.  This is partly to ensure that we have a good grasp of your circumstances and partly to avoid censure from the auditors.  This is something we must do, not something we choose to do!

All students must include:
  1. Proof of any Undergraduate Student (“Maintenance”) Loan, Fees Grant, other LA grant/s and parental contribution, i.e.  Financial assessment schedule provided by your Local Authority plus the payment schedule from the Student Loan Company.
  2. Proof of Postgraduate Funding.  A letter from your funder, if appropriate.  If you have applied for a Career Development Loan/ Professional Studies Loan, please provide a copy of your award
  3. 3 consecutive months bank statements for all accounts.  One should show the deposit of a student loan instalment.  Please explain briefly all deposits into the account and all withdrawals of £50 and above. Exception: if you opened your first ever bank account less than three months ago, when you obviously can’t provide a full three months. If this is the case, be sure to let ALF know.
  4. 3 consecutive up to date payslips.  Or a letter from your employer giving your average wage – so that we can find an average monthly or weekly salary.  This is essential for part-time students and students with partners who work. Full-time students who do not have dependants/ caring responsibilities or a health impediment that would prevent them from working, will have an assumed income figure or Notional Postgraduate income figure used instead of actual income.
  5. Rent.  Please provide evidence such as your tenancy agreement.
  6. Personal loans.  A copy of the loan agreement should be enclosed.
  7. Partner’s income and expenditure.  All married students and students aged over 21 should include evidence of any partner’s income, benefits or salary.
  8. Special circumstances.  Any special or unusual circumstances should be explained and evidence provided.  Without evidence,  ALF will not be able to take such circumstances into account.

If you have dependants and/or receive benefits you must also enclose:

  1. Child benefit decision letter.  Simply a copy of the latest letter confirming your entitlement.
  2. All other benefits.  Evidence as above – latest decision letter.
  3. Tax credits.  Please provide a decision letter – not just a payslip if this benefit is paid through your salary.
  4. Housing benefit.  Copy of the letter confirming the amount.
DO NOT ENCLOSE:
  1. Credit Card or Store Card statements
  2. Mobile Phone statements
  3. Household bills (unless in arrears).
