The Students’ Union is a campaigning organisation, meaning it is constantly fighting for students to get a better deal or to raise awareness on the issues that matter most to the student community.

Every year the Students’ Union takes on a number of campaigns, some local and some national.

B-EAT eating disorders

The February issue of Plugged was dedicated to the issue, there was a talk from a B-EAT ambassador and workshops for those in need of help and/or information.

Dyslexia Week

Workshops on how to deal with paperwork and advice sessions were held in a week in February.

LGBT History Month

Throughout the month of February, the Students’ Union, in partnership with the LGBT Society, promoted and championed individuality and choice through a range of events.

Pegged: drink spiking campaign

Students’ drinks were pegged on nights out, drink-protecting caps were handed out and specialist police officers were around checking people for drugs in January.

Green Week

A campaign encouraging students and staff to live more sustainably in November. The Union hosted environmental forums, had public showings of environmental documentaries and joined up with the NUS’s Snap it Off campaign.

National Demo 2010

On Wednesday 10 November, 280 students and staff from Staffordshire University joined colleagues from Universities around the country in taking to government the message that the proposed cuts to higher education will fundamentally destroy accessible, quality education for future students.

Black History Month

A series of events, including an introduction to Afro-Caribbean food, were held over the month of October.
