Gender Neutral Toilet Facilities

It has been requested by Students that the Students' Union, provide Gender Neutral toilet facilities.

In December 2008 Student Council passed a motion (submitted by students) mandating the Students’ Union to trial the provision of a Gender Neutral toilet, the officers and the management of the Union have agreed that one set of the toilets in the LRV be used for this trial.

It is known that Public toilets that are gender separate, are often difficult to negotiate for transgendered or androgynous people, this often leads to embarrassment, harassment, even assault or arrest by others who are offended by the presence of a person they interpret as being of the other gender.

With this in mind the Students' Union is committed to providing an environment free from threat, harassment, intimidation and victimisation of any form verbal, non verbal or physical.
