How do I vote?

This year voting will be both online and assisted, making it even easier for you to vote!

Put simply, if you are already a regular, logged-in user of the website, then voting will be no problem.

If you are not, you may be suitable for assisted voting. This is where students can go to ballot stations, prove their student status and identity to a member of Union staff, and vote using a touchscreen kiosk. Assisted voting kiosks will be in Stoke's Student Space and Stafford's Student Space everyday 10am-4pm.

To establish which is the best option for you, you must first check to see whether you are eligible to vote. To be eligible, you must ensure that you are sharing your data with the Students' Union. If you are not sure if your data is shared with the Students' Union, go to our Can I Vote page to find out.

Once you are sharing your data with the Union, you must make sure you are registered with this website if you wish to vote online. Alternatively, turn up at one of the assisted voting stations and vote there.

Elections Jargon

This year we have multiple positions to be filled for each role up for election.
That means we use the single transferable vote (STV), which is used by other Students' Unions across the country.

The STV system tries to ensure no votes are 'wasted' and makes the final results as proportionate as possible.

However to do that involves a fair bit of maths, so here's a flash animation from Canada we which is the best explanation we've found.
