The Students’ Union is run by students for students – that means we’re completely dedicated to representing students at Staffs and helping provide what they want from their student experience. That covers everything from advice and support, great venues and events to representation, sports clubs, activities and even a dedicated student media service.
We’re constantly striving to ensure the best possible experience for all students at Staffs and free membership of the Students’ Union is automatic on enrolling at Staffordshire University. That means our students get to have their say in what we do and how we do it.
Staffordshire University Students’ Union is a democratic organisation, working entirely for the benefit of students.

What is Fairtrade? Fairtrade at Staffs Uni & Union
2008-9
Get involved with Fairtrade 10 good reasons to buy Fairtrade
Many farmers and workers in developing countries struggle to provide for their families. Unfair trade rules often mean that the price they get paid for their crop doesn’t even cover the cost of production, let alone give them a profit. This impacts not only upon individuals, but families and communities - and the health, education and welfare of these communities. Fairtrade is an international movement which seeks to guarantee a better deal for farmers and workers in the developing world.
In May 2008 Staffordshire University and Students' Union gained Fairtrade accreditation in recognition of its commitment to promoting Fairtrade and increasing its presence on campus.
Here at the Students’ Union, we are committed to providing and promoting Fairtrade products throughout the Students’ Union’s venues and shops, and in the University as well.
You can buy a range of Fairtrade products in any of the Union’s campus shops, including tea, coffee, chocolate and snacks, and importantly, all of the tea, coffee, hot chocolate and sugar in all of our venues is Fairtrade. So you know that each time you get your caffeine fix, the person who grew those coffee beans or harvested the tea leaves was paid a fair wage.
The Students' Union worked really hard throughout 2008-9 to build on the important work we'd done to gain Fairtrade accreditation and to make sure we continued our campaign to get Fairtrade products on campus and raise awareness amongst students and staff.

6. Fairtrade farmers are encouraged to protect their environment or go organic.
7. Consumers show they care about producers and not just about prices.
