Application Form Guidance Please read all of this guidance before completing your application form
The Students’ Union follows a clear recruitment procedure. We keep it as fair as we can and make sure it is in line with the Student Union’s Diversity Policy.
We work out who we want to interview by looking at and reading all the information you give us on the application form. We compare this with a list of things we need people to do in the job you are applying for. Make sure you read the information about the job (the Job Description and Person Specification) before you fill in the application form.
Before you complete the application form please read the Person Specification: it lists the knowledge, experience and skills we want you to have in order to be able to do the job.
When you fill in the application form you need to sell yourself: show us why we should believe you can do the job you are applying for well. Think about how you can explain your own skills, experience and knowledge to show us you match the person specification for the job.
Tell us what skills you have that you could use in the job. Tell us where and how you learned and used those skills. Tell us how you will be an asset to the staff team here at the Union.
You need to give us this information in the additional information section of the application form as this is the area that is shortlisted. If you don’t complete this section you will not be shortlisted.
Tell us what skills you have that you could use in the job. Tell us where and how you learned and used those skills. Tell us how you will be an asset to the staff team here at the Union.
Remember: job applications often fail when people have not given the employer enough information to be able to make a decision to invite them to interview – we know nothing about you and will make our decision on who to interview from what you tell us on the application form. If you tell us nothing (or not very much) we will not know enough about you to realise you are good enough to interview.
If you complete an electronic application form and you are invited to interview you will be asked to sign the application form to declare that all the information you give us is accurate. If you give us any incorrect information, or if you conceal facts, or if you hide something we have asked about (like any criminal record) we are likely to disqualify you from the selection process or, if we only find this out after giving you a job, we will end your contract of employment.
It is important that you complete all sections of the application form
-
Include all the personal details we ask for.
-
Remember to say exactly which job you are applying for.
-
Complete the employment history to include any previous work within or outside the union or university, which can be a paid job or something you did as a volunteer.
-
Remember to fill in the “Additional Information” section: the more we know about you, you have a better chance of being invited to an interview.
CV’s are not accepted as part of an application. The Students’ Union recruitment policy says everyone must complete our application form.
We would like you to complete the diversity monitoring form as we use this for collating data, although this is not compulsory.
Unfortunately due to time and financial constraints, we are unable to acknowledge all the job applications we get. If you have not heard from the Union by the interview date (in the advert & the job description) please assume your application has not succeeded this time.
Thank you for your interest in Staffordshire University Students’ Union. Good luck with your application.
