Gay By Degree is produced by Stonewall (the organisation that promotes the rights of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual {LGB} people in the UK) and is used by some students to assess how inclusive HEIs are in practice. (http://www.gaybydegree.org.uk/). Stonewall uses the information on our website to assess how well we support our LGB students and staff across a range of categories such as training, counselling, networks, community engagement, policies, events etc. Last year we scored 8/10 (up from 7/10 the year before) and this year we have scored 9/10. Out of 156 HEIs, only 6 scored 10/10. We are one of 11 Universities that scored 9/10 – so that puts us in the top 17. This is something of which we should justifiably be proud. We also should recognise that there is more for us to do to ensure that we are as inclusive a community as I believe we should be.
