A Staffordshire University student who bounced his way into the record books by completing a marathon on a pogo-stick is hoping for further success after being shortlisted in this year's Midlands Media Student Awards.
MA Journalism student Jack Sexty has been nominated for his film 'Might as Well Jump' about how he became the record holder for travelling the furthest - and fastest - on a pogo-stick whilst raising money for Alzheimer's UK.
“I'm really happy to have been nominated. A lot of time and effort went into the record attempt and into making the film.
“Quite a few of my course mates helped and they're coming along to the awards with me. The ceremony's taking place almost exactly a year after the marathon so it'll be a nice way to celebrate that, whether I win or not.”
Jack, who has completed his course and recently landed a job with top sports magazine 220 Triathlon, is swapping his pogo-stick for running shoes at this year's Manchester marathon but says he hasn't lost the jumping bug.
He is travelling to America later this year to attempt another pogo world record for the most number of bounces in the shortest amount of time.
Jack is one of 11 finalists from Staffordshire University to be invited to the awards ceremony in Birmingham on Tuesday 14 April.
They are being recognised for journalistic work that covers a range of subjects from Fashion to Social Economics.
Other nominees include Tom Parry who interviewed actor and Staffordshire University graduate Toby DeCann for an article about his role in the BBC hit show 'Marvellous', based on the life of Stoke City player Neil 'Nello' Baldwin.
Rosalie Sarah Watts has been shortlisted for her article about a Staffordshire mother who was the victim of years of domestic abuse which was featured on the website of local charity The Pathway Project.
