Will Scott, third year Music Journalism and Broadcast student, is making all of us here at the Students’ Union proud after being published on the front page of the national publication – Big Cheese Magazine.
The piece featured was an interview with one of his favourite bands, Enter Shikari, who have won several Kerrang and NME awards over their 12 year career.
He said: “I'm a huge Enter Shikari fan. After seeing them 25 times I couldn’t miss this opportunity to finally interview them.
“I can honestly say it was the most nervous I had ever been about any interview but I quickly settled in and they were really nice, genuine guys.”
He started his contribution to the magazine off the back of a work placement that he managed to secure himself. Will said: “I decided it had to be at a national magazine.
“After plenty of perseverance, date changes and plenty of emails/phone calls, they gave me a date to start my placement.
“During my time there I was thrown in at the deep end to do interviews and introduction pieces to prove my worth.
“After I demonstrated my writing skills to them they were keen to give me short reviews and it snowballed from then onwards.”
When his time at the publication was coming to an end, Will was asked whether or not he would like to continue his contribution to the magazine. He jumped at the chance, and has now been an active writer for four months.
He said: “It was my first cover feature and I can honestly say I have never been prouder of a piece of work in my whole life.”
