Find out more about how the landscaping works affects the parking provision on the College Rd campus
Below is a University update on the car parking situation, with a warning of enforcement if staff and students continue to park where they shouldn't:
Work has begun on College Rd to complete the second phase of the landscaping project. In order to complete this work, it has been necessary to restrict access to some areas but rather than close the entire car park, the Estates team has worked closely with the contractors to ensure that as many spaces as possible remain accessible. In addition, car parking spaces in the new car park on Leek Rd have been made available, which means that we currently have significantly more spaces for staff and students to use.
Unfortunately, some drivers continue to park in ways that cause obstruction to other vehicles and pedestrians and in disabled parking spaces that they are not entitled to use. This has caused serious concern for many of our colleagues and students and is an unacceptable situation.
It is essential that cars are parked in marked bays only and that disabled spaces are only used by those individuals who have a blue badge or university accessible parking permit. If the current situation continues then we will have no choice but to bring forward car park enforcement action that is currently planned for January. Please help us maintain a safe and accessible car park.
Below is the original story regarding the landscaping of the College Rd car park.
Phase 1 of the landscaping is almost complete and will see the opening of the new car park to the rear of the lodge on Leek Rd on Monday 12th November.
The Estates team has worked closely with the contractor to make sure that the subsequent phases of work cause as little disruption as possible and that the maximum number of car parking spaces remain available.
As a result, on Monday 12 November work will begin on phase 2 of the landscaping project on College Road. The initial work will entail the closure of the current exit and up to half of the car park closest to the current exit.
As a consequence the current entrance will become an entrance and exit. Also the roads to the front and back of Mellor will become two way. These will be clearly marked & new road signage will be in place. Additionally a new Mini roundabout will be placed at the rear of the College Road Lodge.

May we ask colleagues and students to take extra care while navigating the College Rd site and please observe road signs, road markings and instructions as these may change as work progresses. It is essential that vehicles are parked in marked bays only to ensure a safe and accessible campus.
We will endeavour to provide regular updates via the Shaping the Future site but in the meantime please address any specific queries to estates-helpdeak@staffs.ac.uk.
Students’ Union’s President Gary Richardson said: “The Students’ Union has worked very closely with the University to create a more sustainable solution.
“Our key focus is getting the best for Staffs students, but we do understand a balance had to be struck between safety, maintaining green space and keeping costs to a minimum.
“We will continue to monitor the parking situation and listen to students’ views once the new arrangement has started.”
