How to manage your communications

Following feedback from our Better Staffs Forum about students wanting to manage their email communications better, we have drafted a short guide below on what to do.

There are two options you are faced with: unsubscribing where possible, which is a very permanent solution and difficult to reverse, or creating rules to divert messages. In most cases, including email communication from the Students' Union, there will be an unsubcribe option at the bottom of the email.

At the last Better Staffs Forums on the 12th and 14th October, students said they wanted the option to unsubscribe from communications regarding the campus transformation programme. The campus transformation programme is the University's £40m investment in preparation for students moving over from the Beaconside campus in September 2016.

Whilst it is technically not possible to unsubscribe from University communications to your student email account - by having a student email account you agree to receive information from the University, as agreed in your enrolment terms and conditions - you are able to stop it appearing in your inbox.

If you really do not want to receive a particular email or set of emails, you can set up a rule within your student email account that all emails from the email address in question are filtered into a different folder. The instructions on how to create and manage rules can be found here

The next forum is taking place on Thursday 12 November from 12pm in LRV. To submit discussion points, please go to http://www.staffsunion.com/betterstaffsforum/submit/
