FREE Community Sports Leaders Award Level 2

Stafford Borough Council is offering FREE Community Sports Leaders Award qualifications through the ‘Sport across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent’ initiative.

Date:   Monday 14th April to Thursday 17th April (4 days)

Time:   9.30-4pm each day

Venue: Fenton Manor- Arena A

Age:    16-24

Cost:    FREE (Course can normally cost up to £90 to attend)

You will need to pay a £15 deposit to attend the course but this will be reimbursed on completion of the qualification.

In order to get the funding for the course you will need to volunteer at least 5 hours in connection with School Games events. You will be supported with this placement. An easy way to do this would be to volunteer to help at the Level 3 Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent School Games event being held at Keele University on June 20th. After the course in April you would then need to do 10 hours of leadership to complete the CSLA (this could be combined with the volunteer hours at School Games events/competitions but you would need to be leading (for example, officiating).

The 10 voluntary hours of leadership for your CSLA MUST be started after the tutored hours of the course finish in April. The 5 hours to do with School Games will need to be done by July 31st.

This course is available to anyone aged 16 - 24 years old and teaches leadership skills such as organisation, planning, communication and teamwork through sport.

Description

This is a fun and practical qualification with no entrance requirements or final examinations to sit. The Community Sports Leaders Award Level 2 is on the Qualifications and Credits Framework (QCF) and is worth nine credits. The course is mostly practical and you will be taking part in a number of activities and games which will require you to work as part of a team, pair and sometimes alone.

You will not be assessed or tested on your practical sporting ability but you will be assessed on leading a practical sport session, dance session or fun game. You will get to choose what to lead for your final session.

What can a qualified learner of the Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership do?

Community Sports Leaders are qualified to lead groups in sports/activity sessions whilst under the indirect supervision of a suitably qualified member of staff. (e.g. Indirect supervision refers to the supervision being from afar, for example, the learner may be in the sports hall while their supervisor is in an office or classroom down the corridor, the learner may be outside on the playing field while their supervisor is inside a nearby building, or the learner may be outside on a recreation ground while their supervisor is in the next door community building.)

Places will be offered on a first come first serve basis.
