Find out what Rich and Rochelle are up this week as Beth volunteers at the Olympics and Gary is on annual leave.
After a manic first fortnight in office this week will be a little bit quieter, mainly because myself and Beth are both on annual leave.
The team started last week focusing on campaigns that we will be running to raise awareness during the year from the end of September. Rather than running a week long campaign each week during both semesters we have decided to run one campaign every three to four weeks which will enable the Officer team to plan more effectively to give you relevant information on a variety of topics.
On Wednesday and Thursday we hosted five other officer teams from the Students' Union's of Liverpool Hope, Liverpool John Moore's, Birmingham City, Wolverhampton and De Montford for the first on 6 training sessions each one hosted by another Union. The training session that we delivered was around leadership and what we would like to achieve during the year in Office. It was productive couple of days and the team are already looking forward to August 15th when we travel to Liverpool.
We started the day on Friday with a team photo shoot as we look to extend the awareness of what the Officer team are doing around campus from September. Myself and Rich had a meeting to look at our website and redesigning it to make it more consistent on every page. Rochelle worked on our entry for the Which? University guide while Beth waved goodbye to the team for two weeks as she is in London working at that small event called the Olympics.
Talking about the Olympics, how impressive was the opening ceremony on Friday night. It is very easy to forget what Britain has done and has given to the world over the course of the last two centuries and Danny Boyle's vision reminded me of how great this nation is and it was a roaring success. My favourite bits was the tribute to the NHS, Mr Bean and the biggest surprise of team all being that athletes of the future were given the opportunity to light the Olypmic Cauldron instead of a well known star fitting with the London 2012 theme of Inspire a Generation - very British. The best part of it though was there sheer amount of volunteers that were used to put on the opening ceremony and the hours that they each put in to making the show. 7,500 in total. Outstanding. If you are looking to volunteer and gaining additional skills and experiences, why don't you check out our
inVOLved pages as we have countless opportunities available for you.
As I mentioned this week myself and Beth are on annual leave meaning that Rich and Rochelle are the only two officers in office.
On Monday Rich will be sitting in his first disciplinary committee meeting, while Rochelle will be chasing up Keele's President Joe about arranging an event for the students that will be living up at Caledonia Mills from September.
Wednesday Rochelle will be working with the Activities team looking at the travel plan that Emma had started last year before myself, Rich, Rochelle and a few others will be heading to Old Trafford to watch Spain versus Morocco.
On Thursday and Friday Rochelle and Rich will be down at DMU for Trustee Training and will be joined by Beth on the Friday. This will be really useful as it will give them the understanding of the role of a trustee in an charity organisation and how that is different from the role as an Officer.
Have a fantastic week.
