Information Services are upgrading the current Student email system to Microsoft's Office 365, a Cloud based service for September 2014.
The benefits to students are:-

An enhanced mail storage of 50GB per student

An improved "weboutlook" system with support for the latest web browsers

Online document storage with web based editing of office documents

Email attachment size is increased to up to 25mb (from 10MB)

Access to documents, emails, and data from any mobile device with an internet connection.

Compatibility with a wider range of browsers and mobile devices
When will the upgrade take place?
This work is planned to take place on a rolling basis from Monday 28th July until Monday 1st September.
How will students be informed?
Students will be emailed individually to inform them of the planned date that their email will be migrated to the new system. On the planned date, email will be unavailable for approximately 20 minutes overnight as their email is transferred to the new server.
Following the upgrade students will use the new web address to access their email via web (http://weboutlook.staffs.ac.uk/owa), however access via the old address will redirect if this is forgotten. Access from the full MS outlook client will be unaffected. Email connections from mobile devices such as iPhones and iPads may have to be reset in order to continue receiving email.
