An official statement from the Students' Union executive team regarding the future of the Stafford Campus
As your officer team we’re live to the unrest amongst many students regarding the future of the Stafford campus. We want to first and foremost assure you that we are listening to and acting on your feedback.
We have met with university executives again to make sure that we’re passing through all of your questions & concerns around the potential decision coming in January 2014.
Off the back of this meeting we have secured an open meeting for all students to attend with key university senior management. The Director of Finance Mark Hattersley, Director of Estates Duncan White and the University Secretary Ken Sproston will all be in attendance. This meeting is planned to take place on Monday 20th January 2014 at Beaconside with a location and time to be confirmed closer to the date.
We understand that the timing isn’t ideal during exam week, but the timing of the Board meeting means we need to collate any additional views and make sure they’re seen by all governors in good time prior to the meeting.
As a team we’ve also met with the Facebook page facilitators and petition starter to give advice and extend support & resources for a campaign, if they need it.
As governors, Kris and I (Rochelle) will be making sure that all others on the board are live to your varied feedback that’s been visible on social media, via the petition, face-to-face and also via any comments and suggestion cards.
No matter what decision is made in January, we will still be here as your union to represent and support all students to ensure you get the best student experience possible.
At this point, we know a range of options are being appraised, and the decision on direction of travel will not be made until the Board of Governors meet at the end of January. The full information surrounding the options has not yet been distributed, as consultations are continuing, but we are encouraging these to be made available as soon as possible.
During this time rumours have been circulated around and if there are any areas you’re particularly concerned about please get in touch with your officers via our email or twitter.
We want to be able to get back to you with clear and accurate information, which we will always endeavour to get from the university.
In unity,
Rochelle, Alice, Dayo, Kris and Mel
