NUS Demo 21.11.12 – Why we’re marching.
Your debts are greater than 60k – Undergraduate tuition fees £9k – uncapped Postgraduate and International fees rocketing – PHD bursaries frozen – 79% cuts to teaching budgets – millions unemployed – welfare support slashed.... We are proud to march on 21.11.12.
Your Education
We believe your Education is important and fundamental in enriching your life and your community.
But for most, education serves a simple purpose: to create opportunity. We have seen a decrease in undergraduate teaching funds, an increase in tuition fees, restrictions placed on international students and funds cut for post-graduate students.
We believe education should be accessible to all, in which students are properly supported and encouraged – so that anyone with the ability and aspiration to study has the opportunity to do so.
At Staffs, we also want to educate you about your tuition fees – with many asking when and how you pay them back.
Your Employment
At Staffs, not only do we want you to leave with a degree, we believe you should leave staffs feeling proud of your degree and all the extra skills you have picked up by taking part in extracurricular activity whether that is volunteering, being a STAR for your course or playing hockey week by week.
However, we have seen youth employment rise month by month. We don’t want that for our students! We want to educate you about securing paid placements, providing you with good work experience and workshops on how you can improve your employability.
We believe in Empowering you
We believe our students are proud to be at Staffs - they have the creativity, energy, passion and commitment to change what matters to you for the better. Students collectively have used their voice to improve the heating in the Drama studios, improve module choices on certain degrees and improved the length of time if takes for your academic feedback to turnaround.
The examples demonstrate how powerful your student voice is. From now to 21.11.12 and beyond Staffs students should come together to talk about your uni debts being greater than 60k – Undergraduate tuition fees at £9k per academic year – uncapped Postgraduate and International fees are rocketing – PHD bursaries are being frozen – 79% cuts to teaching budgets – millions unemployed after uni– welfare support for you slashed.... We are proud to march on 21.11.12.
Look out for information why we are proud to march on 21.11.12.
