Hello all! My usual Monday update comes on a Wednesday this week; it's been a hectic couple of days!
The Leadership race is well and truly on - last night our candidates were confirmed and with a total of 43, we have as many students involved this year as I can remember; exciting stuff!! The rest of this week and next sees a second Candidate Campaign Session in Stafford, and Election Drop-In's for candidates or anyone else who's interested or has questions about the Leadership Race.
This week is also Volunteer Week! With a a calendar of events jam packed with all kinds of different sessions and workshops, there's real opportunities to get involved to boost your CV, gain some great life experience and do some good. Check this out if you want to learn more about Volunteer Events throughout the week, as well as everything else the SU has got going on!
Today also sees a Road Safety Day event at the Stafford Campus, co-ordinated by Kim. The local Fire Service will be around all day to give out demonstrations, advice, tips and even give your car the quick once over to make sure its in tip top shape. Interested? Ask at reception in the student space in the Beacon building for info, but you shouldn't be able to miss the fire engines!
Also happening today is our second StARs Conference; an opportunity for all of our Student Academic Representatives to come together and share experiences and good ideas/successes, as well as poppint questions to KIm and members of University Staff and Exec in a panel debate which I'll be chairing. Have a butchers to find out all the details.
What else is going on today...oh yes, its also ABC Night! A great opportunity for all our Student Groups, Societies and Clubs to grab a letter and dress up as a group. We're all looking forward to the weird and wonderful things that will appear; I've heard rumours of Star Wars and Lemmings so far...
Last night also saw the second Women's Forum, where representatives were elected to attend the NUS' National Women's Conference. Fueled by a lively debate about "Lad's Mags" @ your last Student Council meeting, there's a great group of students come together here to discuss and debate a wide range of Women's Issues. This group was formed and guided by Emma, who last week also guided NUS reps around our spaces to hopefully retain our Green Impact Gold Standard Award. We're all waiting with baited breath...
So what about the rest of the week? Well, we'll all be out and about with our NSS Champions, letting you all know about the NSS, SVS and PTES. Don't know what the hell any of that means? Check out another link to learn more; these surveys are your chance to feedback what you really think about Staffs to the Uni and we're keen to find out what you think about your experience here so that we can continuously be improving it!
Other than that, me and the team will be writing a new Student Charter with the University to make sure everyone's clear of what they can expect whilst at Staffs; a big piece of work that links in with the University Plan for 2012-2017, and our own strategy that is nearly in a form that will be able to go online. Keep an eye out for your opportunity to give us feedback on the ideas generated so far!
Have a great week,
Jamie
