Summer Ball 2009 Photographs

This year’s summer ball was set to be bigger and better than ever. Staffordshire University Students' Union once again created an unforgettable night which included live bands, a huge range of music and an array of entertainment. Of course there was the usual photography, several stages for the groups and DJs, and some unusual features to this ball. Some of these were the Silent Disco, a Cinema and a Fairground, to name but a few.

Many staff worked for almost a week to bring the students union to life. Work included suspending lights, building stages and sets, as well as kitting out the V.I.P area and the cinema. Of course there were bars to be stocked and toilets to be cleaned, but there were many people involved in making this years ball an even bigger success than the last.

Over 1500 students and friends attended the Saturday night, which went on into the early hours of Sunday morning, for those who could survive until the breakfast.

 

Students could choose between the LRV and The Sports Hall to witness music and live bands. There was also a Cinema, a Comedy Tent, Silent Disco and even an outdoor fairground for those who were more adventurous.



Many of the acts performing at the ball were well known, and were well chosen by the reaction of the crowds. Pelo, Duke, N-Dubz and The Automatic played on the main stage, which was situated in the sports hall. Where as in the LRV many DJs played throughout the night, and later on in the early hours the stage was graced by Pendulum which made an impressive mix of new and old music.







Back by popular demand to cover yet another summer ball, Ed the official union photographer covered the majority of this years summer ball events. Ed began by photographing the arrival portraits of people coming into the ball. Next he was busy taking the bands themselves both on stage and off. Ed also took the usual union style group shots towards the end of the evening for those who were still dancing.



 



The overall winners for the evening seemed to be N-Dubz and The Automatic. Both groups attracted huge crowds with fans and new listeners alike. A good time seemed to be had by all, and with the many hundreds of great photographs that were taken that night, they will all hold memories for people for many years to come.

We would like to wish you all a very happy summer. For those who are returning in September, Ed will be capturing you at The LRV for the third year and for those who will graduate, good luck for the future....
