The Students’ Union is run by students for students – that means we’re completely dedicated to representing students at Staffs and helping provide what they want from their student experience. That covers everything from advice and support, great venues and events to representation, sports clubs, activities and even a dedicated student media service.
We’re constantly striving to ensure the best possible experience for all students at Staffs and free membership of the Students’ Union is automatic on enrolling at Staffordshire University. That means our students get to have their say in what we do and how we do it.
Staffordshire University Students’ Union is a democratic organisation, working entirely for the benefit of students.

The main method of travel between the two campuses during Monday to Friday daytime is the X1 Bus provided by BakerBus. This is an hourly bus between the two campuses. Their website is: www.bakerbus.com/bus-timetables/ They’re very good at responding on Twitter to customer service issues so tweet @bakerbus or contact them on: 01782 552101
From the College Road Bus stop across the road from the entrance to the Thompson Library, the first bus leaves at 0650 in the morning. This is followed by one at 0800 then at five minutes past each hour until the last one at 1705. There is an X1 bus at 1805, but this only goes as far as Stone so it does not go all the way to Stafford. These buses take around 50 minutes for the journey. The complete list of departures are:
0650, 0800, 0905, 1005, 1105, 1205, 1305, 1405, 1505, 1605,1705.
There are also five express services that run each day, which only serve the two university campuses and do not stop inbetween. These leaves Stoke, College Road opposite the Thompson Library at:
0800, 0940, 1210, 1410 and 1540. These take around 35 minutes per journey
From the Stafford Bus Stop, near the security lodge on the Beaconside campus, the first bus leaves at 0750. Buses then leave on the hour every hour until the last one at 1800. These buses take around 50 minutes for the journey. The complete list of departures are:
0750, 0900, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500, 1600, 1700, 1800
There are also five express services that run each day, which only serve the two university campuses and do not stop inbetween. These leave Stafford at:
0840, 1130, 1330, 1500, and 1630. These take around 35 minutes per journey.
A single journey purchased on the bus costs £2.40 and a return costs £3.70. If you plan to use the buses a lot, it’s cheaper to buy a 10 trip ticket. These cost £15.50 making each single journey only £1.55 each. These tickets can be bought from the Students’ Union Shop on College Road in Stoke and in the Beacon Building in Stafford.
Unfortunately the X1 doesn’t run in the evenings or at weekends. If you need to get across to the other site during these times then the best solution is to get a train between Stafford and Stoke. On the Stoke side this is easy as the train station is right next to the campus. In Stafford the campus is about a 40 minute walk, or about a 20 minute bus ride. It’s best to normally catch a bus.
There are regular services between the campuses with between 2-4 trains per hour in each direction. The following times listed should be used as a rough guide as trains times do vary, especially during weekends when there is maintainance work. Its best to keep an eye on www.thetrainline.co.uk for accurate departure times and delays.
