Akbar Ali

Slate: VIVA STAFFS!

I have decided to stand as Non-Portfolio Executive Officer because I am tired of they bureaucratic way in which the union is run. I want to actively work with the newly elected executive to make sure that student concerns are properly addressed in policy making and other decisions made in executive meetings. Our voice needs to come across.
There are a variety of issues, which have been of growing interest to me. Three things; Firstly, I want to ensure that in the coming months our students union becomes a campaigning body, with emphasis placed on grass root activism. Secondly, I will strive to introduce a larger array of events, which will be accessible for students with limited budgets; also these events will be properly publicized ahead of time. Lastly, I would like to see our union take a political stance and promote Stop the War Coalition, Love Music Hate Racism, and Stop the Nazi BNP.
As a Non-Portfolio Officer I will get the opportunity to work with other part-time officers and make sure our union is run BY students and not WITH students. I also will make sure that the student body from Stafford, Stoke, and other satellite campuses are all made aware of new policy and new motions which have been submitted to Union Council. Therefore, at our Union Council meetings we can have more students interactive with our Union, aware of the way it operates, and have their voices influence decision making
