I believe campaigning is central to the student experience both from achieving things within the university and affecting change within in the wider world and my aim is to build a positive, supportive students’ union that can achieve change for and with its students.
As Communications Officer I will work on promoting the work of the Students’ Union so you, the students, know what we are doing. I will work to make sure that we have an active and vibrant Student media, one that can compete with other universities across the country.
As an active campaigner, I am not shy at getting things done, and achieving things against the odds which I have proven as chair of the Campaigns Collective having campaigned against the EDL, raised almost £400 for Haiti, helped organise the Love Music Hate Racism gig and put on a range of activities over Fairtrade Fortnight.
There should not be a difference between Stafford and Stoke campus and I will work tirelessly to bridge the gap.
· Run campaigns against the BNP to protect and support our beautiful multicultural Stoke-on-Trent.
· Campaign and work with the union to put more Fairtrade and Organic products on the ember lounge menu/student shops to support ethical trading.
· Campaign for a variety of diverse issues that affect our students: anti-sexism and anti-racism campaigns, and campaigns to support LGBT and disabled students.
· Campaign for a free education.
· Run anti-war campaigns.
· More live music, following on from the LMHR gig.
· Ensure that mature students and international students feel supported by the students’ union.
· Contact those students off campus and make sure there needs are both heard and met by utilising a variety of communication techniques: social networking sites, email, and direct contact in order to allow and encourage maximum feedback.
· Free bus between campuses to bridge the gap between Stoke and Stafford campuses.
· Free cash point for Leek Road campus.
· Lower accommodation rent across both campuses.
· Campaign for quicker and more detailed academic feedback.
