VOTE Katy Mitchell: #1 for AMD Rep
Hi there! My name’s Katy and I’m a first year Drama Student. Having seen the work the Union has been doing over the past academic year I feel compelled to get involved and work with AMD students on any topics they need addressing in order to improve “The Student Experience”.
After talking to students across a variety of course a main concern seems to be a lack of working space and availability of the space we do have. This must be rectified as soon as possible so students can reach their full potential without threat of not having a suitable space to work in.
In addition to this, I will campaign for better budgeting for courses which have high material costs as similar to the Studio space, students feel that the high costs impede on their education.
Communication seems to be an issue that needs addressing across the board of AMD. If elected, I would like to see different disciplines of the creative community working together in order to create a cohesive working environment. Opening the lines of communication between not only AMD courses but also different faculties will mean more students from different walks of life meeting abd hopefully making our University community a more diverse place to study.
I would like to work with OMG in order to raise the status of the work it does and launch it as an outstanding opportunity for students to gain work experience in the Media industry and make the most of the facilities on offer.
My final point is to continue breaking down negative attitudes towards AMD degrees in the University and wider community by showcasing and exhibiting the work of Staffordshire University students, launching them into the public eye as respected ambassadors of their crafts.
This year we, as the student population, have been ignored. With your help and vote staffsUNIty hope to give the students their voice again addressing issues that are important to you.
