The Students’ Union is run by students for students – that means we’re completely dedicated to representing students at Staffs and helping provide what they want from their student experience. That covers everything from advice and support, great venues and events to representation, sports clubs, activities and even a dedicated student media service.
We’re constantly striving to ensure the best possible experience for all students at Staffs and free membership of the Students’ Union is automatic on enrolling at Staffordshire University. That means our students get to have their say in what we do and how we do it.
Staffordshire University Students’ Union is a democratic organisation, working entirely for the benefit of students.

I am Philip Slater, I am 22 years old and have been at Staffordshire University for 4 years. I have studied three years of Law and am now pursuing further study in the form of a BA in Modern History and International Politics.
In my campaign for presidency I will be running on a platform for increased funding for sports and Societies. I believe that it is important that the union allocate more funding for student activities and sports to allow our teams to compete nationally, and to give members of social societies the ability to do more and get more out of their involvement.
Despite the number of students at the University increasing, funding has failed to increase in the same way, at the beginning of this year 10% was taken from my Societies’ pre agreed funding, and I am aware that nearly all other societies and sports teams saw similar cuts.
I am an avid supporter of Free Speech and anyone who wishes to protest any issue in a peaceful manner would have the full support of me as President.
I will campaign hard to increase the Studio space and time for the Arts Media and Design school as frequently students are finding that there simply is not enough time and space allocated to them. Whilst we have a great Law facility, and recently refurbished computer suites, little has been done to address the problems that have arisen for studio based AMD students, and my presidency will seek to change this.
I feel that Involvement and participation is an important part of any International student’s aims of study when they come to Staffordshire University, and so, if elected President I will ensure that free conversational English classes are available with a certified TEFL instructor.
I will seek to listen to the concerns of ALL students and represent their views as best as possible.
