Policy & Purpose
The Students Union exists to improve the experience of all its members by;
- • Representing students' views, concerns and aspirations
-
- • Campaigning educating and advising on student issues
-
- • Delivering quality social space and service on campus
-
- • Encouraging students to interact through cultural recreational and social groups and activities

Policies shape how we deliver on our purpose and are determined by our members through referenda or deliberation and debate at Union Council.
Anyone can start the process of creating Policy. Policies are adopted by Union Council or put to the membership through a referenda process.
Union Policies
These are some of the current policies and reference documents of the Students' Union
National Work
The Union works closely with the National Union of Students and other Students Unions. Here are some useful reports and resources resulting from that work:

Review of institutional Complaints and Appeals Procedures
This timely report makes a number of recommendations the Union will be following up.
One of the key areas of concern is the length of time taken by a student to go through the institutional procedures - with several students' union citing examples of it taking over two years.
The other main area was the perception of amongst students that complaining would have a detrimental impact on their relationship with academic staff - especially for postgraduate research students with their one-on-one relationship with their superviser.
