London VGU: Staffordshire London Rampage

Get involved in the newest society at the London campus

Staffordshire London Rampage is hoping to take competitive gaming to the next level. Being inclusive of all skill types across a plethora of games, London VGU is the ultimate way to bring people together at the Here East site.

Here's what we discovered, after chatting with the student organisers at London Video Games Union:

Tell us what the London VGU us about...

A: London VGU is a society that looks to imitate an esports team (competitive gaming). Students can join teams for specific games and compete in competitive university leagues (NUEL and NSE). We aim to put any student interested on a team no matter their skill level. We also offer other spots within the society for other back end roles, such as team coaches, team managers, social media managers, event manager, etc. Our goal is to be as inclusive as possible.

What are you looking to achieve this year?

A: Currently, we are setting up teams for League of Legends, Valorant and Counter Strike Global Offensive. We will set up teams for any game that gains enough interest from students. In future we are looking to set up events, but being a brand-new society, this will be established down the road.

We will look to continue to develop the group by setting up social media, getting proper coaching sessions and setting up our first event. We would also like to set up a friendly show match vs our sister campus in Stoke.

What’s been the stand out moment for your group so far?

A: I would say the two moments that is stand out to me so far is when we established the first team and signed up for the tournament. The second being having our logo created. Both these moments have made it start to feel real and make it feel like I actually can make something that works.

How can students get involved?

A: As mentioned before, we aim to be inclusive as possible, so if there is anything in the esports industry any student want to get involved in, we can look to set up the role so they can gain the experience in it.
