The Students’ Union was invited to the Houses of Parliament to celebrate 10 years of Green Impact
On Monday November 27th, the students’ union was invited to the Houses of Parliament to celebrate 10 years of Green Impact, with the NUS and Caroline Lucas MP.
Speeches from Baroness Jenny Jones (Green Party Peer), Environment Agency board member and Chair of the Big Lottery Fund, Peter Ainsworth and Julia Heiss, of UNESCO all praised the work of Green Impact, highlighted the continued need for progress in sustainability and celebrated the links between the NUS, its’ members and national and international organisations.
The gathering also got to hear from Anna D’Arcy who came up with the idea of Green Impact whilst at the Uni of Northumbria. Anna Approached the NUS for support with her campaign and has seen it grow into a national campaign.

Charmaine Jacobs shared her story in sustainability. After being president of East Kent College Charmaine has invigorated environmentalism at the Uni campuses and now runs The Gastro Hub, a social enterprise after securing funding from NUS Student Eats.
Finally, Shakira Martin, NUS President closed the evening highlighting the success of Green Impact so far with over 470 institutions carrying out 300,000 sustainability actions saying "[Green Impact] helps our students’ unions provide transformational experiences...".
