"Our role as a Union is to represent your academic interests and I intend to do that
We have a commitment from the university that our students will not be disadvantaged by government decisions
Yesterday we agreed whilst a review on how we could support parents and careers specifically took place over the next couple of days we would ask our students in this group to:-
- Take to your academic and explain your situation - they are there to support
- Start to look at the exceptional circumstance process
- Talk to me and student voice if you have individual issues and concerns or are not getting the right support – we are here to help
We also discussed the range of options we need to consider in terms of support you
- Making and identifying alternative arrangements is going to be critical
- Do we need to give additional time?
- Do we need to consider when presentations are done evenings, weekends
- Do we need to develop a different process?
With Boris last night this all changed, we will be arranging to meet the University again as a matter of urgency to:-
- Ask for emergency regulations to be put in place
- I will be reaching out to Deans and Associate Deans to ask them to be considerate, supportive and understanding of you as a group of people put under a huge amount of pressure
- I will be working with the advice center to make sure the right support is there and the right information to make this as easy as possible for you
- I will arrange a MPC meeting over the team this week to keep you updated as well as regular posts and BLOG"
- Anthony Wallace, Students' Union Vice President
Your question: Will the nursery be open?
We can confirm the nursery will operate in line with government guidance for key workers and vulnerable children as well as all other children they are currently supporting. Please be aware however there may be further government updates which would impact this.
UPDATE: Win for Parent Students!
Following conversations with the University yesterday (5th January) where we raised the issue of children not being able to access their online learning due to devices not being available, the University have generously agreed to loan an additional device to help people through this difficult time.
Just apply using the online form and explain you need an additional device due to children being at home. As long as your application is accepted, the University will then dispatch to your home address as quickly as possible.
