As summer rolls on, Welcome 2016 gets closer and more and more prospective university students discover that they’ll be coming to Staffs. Naturally, that means preparation; finding out where you’ll be living or how you’ll travel into university, buying course books, researching the local area and, importantly, linking up with your university, union and fellow freshers on social media.
As well as all our official accounts, where you can keep up with all the latest events and news, we also work with the university to create a Facebook group exclusively for new Staffs students. It’s the perfect place to meet people you’ll be living or studying with next year, learn about university life and ask any burning questions you might have.
There is only one official group and it’s also the only one that’ll provide you with all the information you need.
Unfortunately, there are a few other Facebook groups looking to trick you into joining them.
These groups might look legitimate, with thousands of likes and an official-looking name, but they aren’t run by the university or union and have no affiliation with us whatsoever. It’s often the case that they’re set up and run by a local club promoter who wants to bombard new students with adverts for one of the many club nights in town.
Each of these Facebook groups can be recycled year-by-year as new freshers start to look for a Staffs Uni community, which means they’re full of ex-students who left years ago and even more club promoters, i.e. no one remotely helpful to a prospective student. The official group exclusively accepts new students who’ve been confirmed to join Staffs this year, as well as union and university reps who can help answer any of your queries.
So accept no substitute, make the most of the wonderful Staffs community and don’t play into the hands of a few imitators looking to make a bit of cash.
