Pole and Hula Society (Stoke)

Welcome to the Pole and Hula Society!

Introduction

The Pole and Hula Society is all about combining fun and fitness together! Both Pole and Hula are a great way to tone up and build up strength - the best bit is, you don't need to be a sporty person to do either!

As long as you're up for a laugh and you don't mind a little exercise you can easily join the society! You can be upside down on a pole, or twirling a couple of hoops around in no time!

We welcome all ages, don't be shy about coming on your own either, as well as Carnie, Josie and Myself, there are the most friendly instructors! You will also meet others with the same interests and will soon be hanging around on the pole.

If you feel up to it, around June/July of each year a show is put on so we can all show off our skills!

Instructors

All of our instructors are amazing at what they do and really enthusiastic! They've been on Britain's Got Talent and been in various competitions. In fact they have recently been in Stoke Gay Pride!

You can learn more about them by going to the pole fit page on facebook or their official site.

Clothing

There is no need to feel insecure about yourself. You can wear what you feel comfortable in. All we ask is you leave your legs and arms bare for grip, and so shorts and a tank top are suggested.

Your Society Leaders

Name - Emily

Role - Chairperson

Experience - 1 year of pole & hula

About me: I joined both pole and hula at the beginning of last year. I had wanted to try pole for years but never had the confidence or money, however everyone makes you feel really welcome and the prices are seriously cheap so I gave it a go. You are given your own time to do things and are not pressurised for doing it in your own time. I fell in love with pole from my first lesson and hula proved to be so much fun too! I really hope you give them both a try as they are both in there own ways really good, unique ways of fitness.

Name - Carnie

Role - Treasurer

Experience - 1 Year of Pole

About me: I'm a third year Music Journalism student. I've wanted to try pole for ages. But being very clumsy and not very sporty, I didn't think I'd be able to do it. I joined the society last year and have been addicted to it ever since. You get so much encouragement from Faye, the instructor, and everyone else in the class. It's the most fun I've ever had working out. I've gotten fitter and lost a few pounds too. Anyone, any shape, any size and any fitness can do it. Come along to the Give It a Go and you'll see how great it is.

Name - Josie

Role - Secretary

Experience - 1 Year of Pole & Hula

About me: I'm in my third year studying Psychology and I started bother pole and hula in my second year. I'd always wanted to try pole dancing since I was in sixth form, and hula just sounded like a laugh since I love messing around with my little sister's kiddy hoop in summer at home. I'm really glad I joined the society as everyone I've met is lovely and really friendly. The bonus? All the instructors are really nice and really encouraging - perfect if you're not that confident like I was at the start. No matter what you're fitness level is, both Pole and Hula are good for increasing it as well as body strength (especially your arms in pole!!!) and just having a laugh. So come have a go and hope to see you there =D

Where?

Both Pole and Hula lessons are situated at the Pole Fit studio in Longton:

51A Market Street, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST3 1BW

How?

Train - Around £1 return from Stoke, or £4.45 Return from Stafford (with a rail card)

Bus - number 23 or 26 from city road...this is about a 10 minute walk from the uni.... or the number 6/6a from Victoria road, again about a 10minute walk from the uni.

Taxi - normally £6 one way and so may be best for more than one of you to go at once :)

Car - some people may be able to offer lifts however this will have to be arranged.

Lifts: If you are giving other members a lift, it is highly recommended you register your car with the university for safety precautions but also as you can claim back petrol money. This will be roughly £10 a month you could claim back and spend on socials instead!
