Who are we?
The Outdoor Adventure Society is a vibrant and dynamic community committed to fostering a deep appreciation for the great outdoors and the thrill of adventure. It's a collective for students that would like to have a break from the university life and relax, going outdoors to enjoy the sights that nature has to offer. Founded on the principles of exploration, environmental respect, and shared experiences, the society encourages its members to venture out of their comfort zones and immerse themselves in the limitless beauty and challenges of the natural world. We welcome individuals of all skill levels, from the curious beginner to the seasoned veteran, as we believe that the outdoors has something to offer to everyone. Our main activities are hiking and camping, but we hope to provide a community where people can find shared interests. We also host wilderness skill sessions which can include outdoor survival workshops, navigation training, and environmental conservation projects. In addition, we organise regular expeditions to some of the most breath taking locations, fostering a spirit of adventure and camaraderie among our members. At the Outdoor Adventure Society, we believe that adventure is not just about the thrill of the journey, but also about learning, growing, and creating unforgettable memories. Come join us, and let's explore the wild together!
Our Values
Promote Outdoor Activities: In an increasingly digital world, we hope to encourage more people to unplug and engage in outdoor activities. These activities can provide both physical exercise and mental relaxation, contributing to overall wellbeing.
Environmental Awareness: By spending time in nature, members can develop a deeper appreciation for the environment and understand the importance of conservation efforts. We aim to actively participate in and advocate for environmental conservation.
Community Building: We hope to bring together like-minded individuals who share a passion for outdoor adventures. This can foster friendships, create a sense of belonging, and build a supportive community.
Skill Development: Outdoor activities often require and develop a unique set of skills such as navigation, survival skills, problem-solving, and teamwork. We can provide a platform for members to learn and hone these skills.
Exploration: The Outdoor Adventure society should serve as a hub for individuals who wish to explore new terrains, embark on adventures, and experience the thrill of discovering the unexplored.
Health and Wellness: Engaging in outdoor activities can be beneficial to physical health, aiding in fitness, strength, and endurance. It also supports mental health by reducing stress and improving mood.
What we do
We aim to have camping trips at least once per term, with the occasional larger trip; Larger trips could include weekend stays in the peak district, the lake district, and Wales. On these trips we would enjoy activities such as hiking, paddle boarding and camping. As well as this we host regular skill workshops, these can include crafts, navigation skills, and survival skills. We also have weekly wilderness skills sessions and socials, where members can get to know each other.
