Green Resources
Past Activity
In an effort to encourage students to be greener, the Students' Union runs a Green Week every year. Green Week sees both educational and entertaining events surrounding the environmental theme. For a full breakdown of events in the last Green Week in 2010, click here
We are also running a healthy eating campaign in tandem. As part of the campaign, we are using an NHS tool to assess your eating habits. Once completed you will be able to find out how to improve what you eat.

Get Greener Now: Save energy, Recycle, Save Water and Drive Less
Save Energy
-
Turn your lights off when you leave a room
-
Only boil the amount of water you need
-
Change your lightbulbs for energy saving ones – they last up to ten times longer than ordinary bulbs and could save you around £45 for each bulb.
-
Turn your thermostat down – even by just 1 degree

Recycle
Help the environment, conserve natural resources and reduce landfill by recycling.
You can recycle your household items at recycling points on campus or request recycling boxes and bags for your house from the council.
Save Water
Save water and money - make your own ‘Water hippo’
The quickest and cheapest way to reduce the amount of water used by your toilet is to fill out some of the space in your toilet cistern with a suitable object.
House bricks wrapped in plastic (bubble-wrap or even just a carrier bag) to protect the brick from crumbling or moulding are an ideal solution to this. Alternatively, a large margarine tub, water bottle or similar container filled with water and sealed will work just as well.
Drive less
Walk or cycle more – not only will you reduce your carbon emissions, you’ll get healthier and save money on petrol.
Warm fuzzy feelings all round!
If the distance is too far then try public transport. For the journey between Stoke and Stafford your carbon footprint will be much lower. You can click the image below to take you to a carbon calculator for any destination.
