The Executive team of Staffordshire University have taken a pledge alongside the Students' Union agreeing to oppose any form of bullying in line with Stonewall's "No Bystander campaign".

Stonewall – famous for their 'Some People are Gay, Get Over it' campaign – has launched the campaign in order to encourage everyone to challenge bullying of any kind.

Michael Gunn, Staffordshire University's Vice Chancellor, is backing the campaign, alongside the rest of the University Executive (Mark Hattersley, Rosy Crehan, Allan Howell and Ian Blachford).

The Students' Union has been working in conjunction with the Equality and Diversity department of the University to make this a key focus.

Mel Ramsay, Students' Union President, said: "Everyone should feel comfortable to be themselves at university.

"We are lucky enough to have a very accepting feel on campus, but we need to ensure that this continues. The Students' Union has also signed the pledge to ensure that we keep up this work."

Earlier this year, Stonewall celebrated its 25th anniversary, marked at its annual Equality Dinner. The glittering event featured speeches from presenter, broadcaster and writer Sue Perkins and journalist and Stonewall founder, Matthew Parris. Both emphasised that while there was a lot to celebrate, there was still much to do.
