NUS Awards
Staffs one of the best for venues and being green

Staffordshire University Students' Union is one of the best in the country for venues and the environment.

The Union has been ranked in the top five in the country for the quality of our three venues and in the top six in the country for the environmental work our GreenPad team does.

An Outstanding Award was received by the Union, meaning it is one of the six best Unions in the country for environmental practice. Over 100 students' unions across the UK took part in the competition this year, but Staffs' efforts in the Great Donate campaign, the cleaning of the nature reserve, the fantastic Green Week campaign, Meat Free Monday social media campaign and work on both campuses for the Blackout saw Staffs recognised as an Outstanding Union.

All three of our venues – Ember Lounge, The Lounge and Legends, and LRV and Verve – received the top award of Gold in the Best Bar None awards and as a Union we were ranked in the top five in the country.

Vice President Tom Hope said this was a fantastic achievement and congratulated everyone involved.

"We always put the environment at the heart of what we do and this is further evidence that our GreenPad team and the wider Union are committed to giving Staffordshire University a sustainable future," he said.

"The fact our venues are for the second year running some of the best in the country is another reminder that students at Staffs receive a fantastic experience of the highest quality.

"These awards prove how hard our staff work to make every student proud to be Staffs."

Katie Ferneyhough, coordinator of the GreenPad project said: "I would like to extend my gratitude to all the student volunteers involved, without which we would have not achieved any of this. They are incredibly inspiring and are really leading sustainable change at Staffs."
