Welcome to Staffordshire University Students' Union

Elections

Your Students’ Union (SU) is here to make life at Staffs the best it can possibly be. To achieve this, the SU is run by a group of students that are elected each year.

Any student can put themselves forward for election and if they get enough votes, be given the opportunity to lead an exciting, dynamic organisation capable of achieving real change.

This term the students of Staffordshire University will be asked to decide on the future of their SU by voting in the Officer Elections – this will include both full time and part time positions. These elections will decide which students are chosen to lead Staffs SU in the year ahead. Every Staffordshire University student can vote and these votes alone will decide the outcome.

Vote - Have Your Say...

As a member you have an obligation to vote. If you want Staffordshire University Students' Union to look after your interests, then you have to be interested in your Union. We ask our members to take part in voting. We will ask you to vote on a number of issues throughout the year. Things such as environmental matters, Union policy, and how the resources available to members are funded.

We also ask you to vote for your representatives within the Union such as the Executive and Union Council. If you don’t like what is being put forward by a candidate – then don’t vote for them! If you do like the idea of a certain change to the Union, then vote for it.

If you don’t use your vote, then somebody else is going to have a say in how our shared resources are used, so you could miss out.

The members hold all the power, as it’s the members who decide what happens, either as a regular student voting for candidates at elections or by becoming more involved with how the Union is run.

For these elections and referenda, voting will be taking place by paper ballots. This means you need to turn up to a polling station within the specified opening hours, with your student card, to cast your vote. However for those who have specific reasons for being unable to attend a polling station, remote e-postal votes will be offered, but you will have to register early for these. Click for more information on Postal Votes.

You can check whether you are eligible to vote by using our Can I Vote tool. Any current or completing student can be on our electoral roll to vote. If there is an issue on that page, there are instructions on how you can make sure you are eligible.

Act like you own the place - make sure you cast your vote!

Voting will be open on 16/17/18th March.
