Student group of the month - Folklore Society

folkloreThe Folklore Society host regular sessions in the Coalport/Reslife Garden on Leek Road, gathering together around a cosy fire with comfy cushions and warm blankets to share folklore stories old and new.

In the the colder, winter months the meet ups are moved inside into Reslife accomodation, but the weather never dampens the spirit and interest of the members and the group is extremely popular amongst our students as the membership list continues to grow.

There is always something interesting on the agenda as folklore is a massive part of humanity's history and has had a significant influence on modern culture. The society's goal is to experience folklore from all parts of the world and share it with other members of the society.

The society joined up with the Cosy Club last term to host a bonfire celebration evening, where members of the two societies came together to enjoy toasted marshmallows, sparklers, food and entertainment which provided a fantastic evening for all attendees.

The Cosy Club and Folklore Society collaboration continued with a joint visit to the Cat Cafe in Stone, a venture to the feline lovers paradise which has resulted in great friendships been made and a number of members from each society have since attended the other society's events and activities.

The Folklore Society are more than happy to collaborate with other groups and have recently worked alongside RAMS, The Coven and Myth Society to successfully deliver a themed event in LRV.

It seems that lots of student groups want to work alongside the Folklore Society, and no wonder because they are a great bunch. Nothing is too much trouble for the committee who are always willing to lend a hand.

On the 26th of January 2023 Folklore took over Squeezebox Nights with an attendance of around 15 students learning how to design a cryptid. Some amazing art skills were on show along with great company and of course stories and folklore tales.

Folklore is not just a society, it's a community. We are Staffs, We are Proud to be Staffs
