What Is Caving?
Caving is the exploration of natural underground cave systems — places shaped by water, rock, and time over millions of years. It’s about travelling through an environment completely hidden from the surface.
That might mean walking through huge chambers, following underground rivers, climbing, descending ladders, or using ropes to safely access deeper parts of a system. Every cave is different — no two trips are ever the same.
You'll explore places most humans never see.
Why Caving?
Most people never see the underground world — or its real treasures beyond tourist routes. Imagine stepping into cathedral-sized chambers, squeezing through ancient passageways, wading through crystal-clear streams, or abseiling into caverns while waterfalls thunder into the streamway below.
Caving isn’t just a hobby — it’s a journey. You’ll learn real skills, push yourself safely, and become part of a team that genuinely relies on each other underground.
What StUCC Offers

- Socials & Events — pub nights, kit workshops, talks, and CHECC.
Our Community
Underground, teamwork isn’t optional — it’s everything. StUCC is a supportive, tight-knit group where you’ll make mates fast and genuinely feel part of something real.
And on a real note? The laughs don’t stop when we leave the cave.
Before and after trips is where the memories are made.
All trips we stay together in traditional caving huts and hostels — cooking massive group dinners, sharing stories, and heading out to local pubs for proper social nights.
Card games, board games, music, inside jokes, and nights that end with everyone absolutely knackered. Whether it’s your first trip or your fiftieth, you’ll fit in straight away.
- No egos — just good people
- A safe space to learn, push yourself, and have a laugh
- Trips that feel like proper weekends away, not just outings
