Based at a beautiful Staffordshire venue, this free two-night residential course gives students the chance to find our more about their Students' Union, develop their leadership and trainer skills, get involved in Students' Union campaigns, meet new people and achieve awesome things! All candidates are eligible for free travel from the University Campus and subisidies are available to support travel from anywhere in the UK.
The Students' Union is subsidising 80 candidates for this course and your place on the Big Union Getaway will be COMPLETELY FREE if you are a current Staffordshire University Student.
However, cancellations made after 1 July 2017 may be charged a cancellation fee at the discretion of the Students' Union Student Engagement Manager.
Who can attend?
The Big Union Residential is open to all current Staffordshire University Students. However, we're sorry to confirm that recently graduated students are not eligible to attend.
I have a disability, can I take part?
Yes, of course! Our chosen venue is access friendly, based across a large single storey building. All workshop and outdoor activities are access friendly and every measure to make sure you can enjoy your stay with us will be taken. Please inform us of any disability that might affect your stay when you book your place and a member of the team will be in touch to make any necessary arrangements with you.
What is the programme for the Residential?
Our team is working hard to make sure that the programme for the event is perfect! So, a detailed breakdown of the programme will be available soon. However, transport from the Stoke Campus will depart at 08:30 on Tuesday 25 July 2017 and candidates will arrive back on campus by approximately 16:00 on Thursday 27 July 2017.
Do I have to attend the whole residential?
Yes. Attending only part of the course will limit your ability to sucesfully participate in the training aspects of the programme and as such, you are required to attend all sessions.
Can I bring guests, partners or children?
Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate guests, partners or children for this residential activity.
However, should you have specific care needs that are provided by a specifically trained and nominated carer, we will of course be able to welcome them to join you. Please inform us of any such requirement when you register for the Big Union Getaway.
Do I have to stay overnight?
We would encourage all candidates to take a residential place on the course, as the programme is cramp-packed and we wouldn't want you be travelling home completely exhausted. However, we will understand should you wish to remain non-residential and arrangements can be made.
What food can I expect on this residential?
A detailed menu will be available soon but all dietary requirements will be catered for. Meals will be served in an on-site restaurant, where candidates will be able to select their meal. Tea, Coffee and cold refreshments will be made regularly available throughout the course.
I really want to attend but I'm a bit nervous! Help?
We appreciate that this might be the first residential course you've attended and that it can be quite nerve-racking! We urge anyone feeling a bit nervous to contact the Student Engagement Team, where we'll happily meet you for a coffee and talk through the course and your worries.
Where is the residential being held?
This year, the Big Union Getaway will be held at a beautiful venue in Lichfield. Take a look at the pictures above!

What happens if I need to cancel my place?
We really hope that every ticket holder will be able to attend the Big Union Getaway, as it'll be a fantastic few days. However, we understand that sometimes life can get in the way and you may need to cancel your free place.
If this is the case, you'll need to inform the Students' Union Student Engagement Team by email at email@example.com by Friday 31 June 2017 at 17:00.
If you wish to cancel your place after this deadline, you will be responsible transferring your ticket to a colleague or friend. If you are unable to transfer your ticket you may be charged a cancellation fee.
