Washing | Self Care

Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene both on a personal level and with your general surroundings, is an important aspect of keeping well and healthy in your lifestyle.

Keeping clean will reduce your risk of becoming ill and will make you feel better overall. Here are some tips to keeping a clean and hygienic lifestyle:

  • Have a shower or bath at least once a day, washing yourself thoroughly with soap, and washing your hair with shampoo and conditioner
  • Clean your teeth twice a day – once in the morning, and again before you go to sleep
  • Start and maintain a skincare routine (cleanse, scrub and moisturise regularly)
  • Wash your hands after going to the toilet, or after coughing or sneezing

Keeping clean is also important, especially if you are living with others. It is respectful to keep your share of the house or accommodation clean and tidy, so that it is a positive living space for everyone there. You can do this by:

  • Cleaning up surfaces with multi-surface cleaner/cleaning wipes
  • Washing, drying and put away your dishes after cooking in the kitchen
  • Regularly washing your laundry (including bedding and towels)
  • Cleaning bathrooms: e.g. putting bleach down the toilets, spraying shower trays and unclogging plugs and drains of hair.
  • Generally cleaning up after yourself – if you have made a mess, it is your responsibility to clean it up.
