Acts of giving and kindness can really help to improve your self-esteem and emotional well-being, and volunteering is a great way to do this.

People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it offers the chance to give something back to the community or make a difference to the people around them. For others it provides an opportunity to develop new skills or build on existing experience and knowledge. Regardless of the motivation, what unites them all is that they find it both challenging and rewarding.

To get you started, we got on our e-bike and searched the local area seeking interesting ways for you to give back, and here is what we have found so far...

  • Covid Ward Support (NHS) - Support the Health Care Team at the University Hospitals of North Midlands by ensuring that patients are receiving adequate nutrition. For more information please contact: Becci Thompson (Volunteer Co-ordinator) Email: rebecca.thompson@uhnm.nhs.uk

  • Tech Buddy Volunteer (Beth Johnson Foundation) – Volunteers support clients to use digital devices, from the very basics, to finding health information online and everything in between. You can also do this from home!

You can find lots more local and national opportunities on our Students’ Union volunteer page:
