The Mountaineering Club recently took on an incredible challenge in support of Cancer Research UK — climbing the equivalent height of Mount Kilimanjaro. Standing at a staggering 5,895 metres, Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa, making this sponsored climb no small feat. Determined to rise to the challenge, club members pushed their limits to collectively reach this impressive goal.

The event took place on 19th April 2026, between 12:30 and 17:30 at the Sir Stanley Matthews Sports Centre, located on our Stoke-On-Trent campus, where participants climbed throughout the day in a fantastic display of teamwork, endurance, and community spirit.

Alongside the climb, the club hosted a raffle featuring a variety of prizes generously donated by local partners, including Waterstones and The Terrace Inn. Thanks to these efforts, the event raised over £800 for Cancer Research UK.

While the final distance total is still being confirmed, the achievement is already something to celebrate. The dedication and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved is truly inspiring, and we couldn’t be prouder of what the club has accomplished.
