As autumn approaches, the work on improving the quality of the local River Trent and Ford Green Brook is coming to a close. Much hard work has been done to revive these areas, and Transforming The Trent Valley has opened some amazing opportunities to explore the changes and improvements through walks and river-fly monitoring sessions. Some of these walks are taking place at Staffordshire University in the nature reserve!
Nature Walks
Many of the available opportunities consist of various nature walks across three locations: Ford Green Brook, Bucknall Park, and the University's nature reserve. During these walks, you can assist in monitoring the trees, the fungi or even the river itself whilst witnessing the the new changes to these locations. These sessions run from 5th October until January 6th between 10 AM and 1:30 PM, and you will be joined by experts who will inform you of what to look for and how to identify wildlife and plants near the riverside. It is recommended to dress appropriately (Strong, sturdy footwear suitable for wetter and muddier conditions, waterproof clothing, warm layers, etc.)
River-fly Monitoring Sessions
Trent Renw will also be starting their river-fly monitoring sessions, so if you have missed these but are still interested, you are welcome to join. You don't need to have any experience, and they will provide all of the equipment you need. Two of the walks will have specialists sharing their knowledge. Trent Renew have advised that if you attend the events, to wear warm outdoor clothing and footwear suitable for the weather.
