There are 3 main Categories or Disciplines of Buhurt.
Duelling - Duelling is the least contact form of the sport, all about technical prowess and the ability to out-fence your opponent. No grappling, all strikes and blocks, parrys and counters. Score more hits than your opponent to be victorious. There are 5 disciplines of duelling, that being the Longsword, Sword and Buckler, Sword and Shield, Polearm and Triathlon. Longsword, Sword and Shield and Polearm are scored in 2 minute rounds, best of 3. Sword and Buckler is scored as first to 5 hits per round, best of 3. Triathlon is a round of Longsword, Sword and Buckler and Sword and Shield each, scored the same as their base discipline.
Buhurt/Melees - Buhurt is the main form of this sport, teams of 2, 3, 5, 10, 12, 15/16 and on and on fight to be the last ones standing. Grappling is majorly important, striking in this discipline is a means to an end, either to disorient or displace in order to grapple, escape or to strike and incapacitate/down them (usually 2 handed weapons are the ones striking to down someone.)
Profight/Outrance/AMMA - Likely the most popular, viewership-wise, modern discipline, Profights are essentially Armoured UFC fights. Two fighters, usually in the same weight class and weapon, meet in a list or perhaps even an octagon and score points based on striking, grappling, groundwork etc. Has had a pretty big surge of popularity in America as the very commercial AMMA and globally countries are coming round to making pro-fight leagues.
You will be training in soft-kit, with sessions being held in the Olympic Park.
