Welcome to the Women’s Network! We are a representative network for the members of this university who experience women's issues, whether you’re cisgender, trans, non-binary, or gender fluid. We accept people from all backgrounds and look forward to fighting the different forms of oppression that occur at Staffordshire University and the wider society.
Network Leader:
Emma Such (She/her)
Our three main focusses for the year academic year 2021-22 were:
Women’s health: This will begin with raising awareness of breast cancer, PCOS, endometriosis, and cervical cancer. We will also be encouraging women to own their sexuality and their sex life as part of the SU president’s (Hannah Blackburn) manifesto point “Lets talk about sex”. Women’s sex life is often thought of as taboo, with issues surrounding ‘slut shaming’ and other slurs.
Gender Based Violence: This part of our agenda will address issues such as domestic abuse, and sexual harassment and abuse. This topic will be handled with absolute sensitivity and respect as we know how these events can have a major impact on others.
Women in sports/STEM/business/leadership: This topic will entail highlighting students and staff of Staffordshire University in these positions with a series of interviews. This will aim to encourage the future women of Staffs to chase these positions and succeed in commonly male dominated fields. We also hope to work closely with the Sports at Staffs team to help encourage women to partake in sports, such as utilising the ‘Fit and Fab’ program that is in place on campus.
Goals for 2022-23 TBC!
