I have to agree with gemma. Im not against football by any means, but the increasing frequency that football matches are being shown in the ember lounge is getting a bit irratating. I liked it when it was shown in the lrv, there was more of an atmosphere, and the larger screen was certainly better.
Since the lrv is now closed practically full time, and the most popular pub in stoke, the roebuck has been tragically demolished, the only place for students to get a good cheap, local drink is the ember lounge. Without the added draw of football, the ember lounge is already packed to the rafters. With football being displayed both Saturday and Sunday, every weekend, and frequently during the week, it is nigh on impossible to get to the bar, let alone to a seat or table.
Of course, i can undersatnd the draw to have sports in the lounge, it draws in a large amount of people, which must boost the already large profits sky high. But can it not instead be shown in the lrv? We have two venues for a reason surely, so that we dont have to elbow our way through our fellow students just to get to the bar! If the lrv was re-oppened like it used to be, football could be shown more frequently, with greater space for maore fans, and those who are not particuarly interested in the match can once again return to the ember lounge, and flock to bar and pool tables like they used to. Surely it could be a win-win situation to the overcrowding problem, and since the roebuck was taken from us surely the uni can provide with suitable alternatives to satisfy our continuous thirst for cheap alcohol and good company.
