For this weeks Proud To Shout About It, we look at the Mountaineering Clubs' Peak District Climb, that was changed to a hike because of the weather!

Proud To Shout About It - SUMC Proud To Shout About It - SUMC

Proud to Shout About is a platform for students to celebrate their successes in being part of the union. Whether it’s running societies or simply moments that make you proud, this is the space to share them. It’s all about highlighting the effort, dedication, and passion that students put into their university life and giving them the recognition they deserve.

Our Mountaineering Club were looking forward to a day of adventure and climbing in the Roaches, but the British weather had other ideas. When the forecast took a turn for the worse, the SUMC Committee jumped into planning mode. Not wanting to disappoint members who had signed up for some outdoor expeditions, the quick thinking team adapted their plans, keeping the safety of their members firmly in mind. Qualified hike leaders stepped up and plans, routes and risk assessments were adjusted to ensure that the group could safely explore and keep their day activities on track.

It looks like everyone had a great time - here's what the committee told us:

"On Saturday 10th October, SUMC headed to the Peak District for a hike to Lud's Church! The trip was originally meant to be to climb, but due to adverse weather, it was repurposed as a hike - which we all enjoyed!"

"Despite the wind and rain, we completed a 15km hike, exploring some very cool areas of the peaks. While we wish the weather had been more favourable, we really made the most of it."

"Such an amazing group of people came with us, it definitely made the trip one to remember! We ended up walking for 5 hours, up mountains and down a gorge, stopping for hot drinks at the local ice cream van and for a cheeky pub trip!"

"We definitely hope to do more trips like this in the future, just hopefully with better weather!"
