Big Win for Ghanaian Students Supported by your Students’ Union

Last November, our Student Union was approached with concerns from our Ghanaian students regarding delays in their tuition payments promised by their government. This situation was distressing for these students, as they risked returning home without their certificates and valuable UK job experience needed to excel in their home country's job market.

Last November, our Student Union was approached with concerns from our Ghanaian students regarding delays in their tuition payments promised by their government. This situation was distressing for these students, as they risked returning home without their certificates and valuable UK job experience needed to excel in their home country's job market.

In response, our Student Union championed by Precious stepped in to lobby the university on their behalf and acted as an intermediary between the students and their government. Our efforts led to several significant achievements:

  • Ensuring the students could proceed with their graduation ceremonies.
  • Securing access to the university's Wellbeing services for students who were technically no longer enrolled.
  • Your Students’ Union providing vouchers to support their living costs, as they were not receiving their promised stipends.
  • Facilitating the Ghanaian government's payment for students still enrolled, alleviating fears of being unable to graduate.
  • Arranging for the university to re-enrol students, allowing them to continue their studies without having to return home and wait for government payments.
  • Enabling students to graduate and proceed to the Graduate Route.

This journey, from November 2024 to July 2025, was indeed challenging for both the students and our Student Union. However, we are proud to have been there every step of the way, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to our students' success.

Precious
